Tips and Tricks:
Trabecular Metal: A New Component Released by Zimmer For Their NexGen Line
When defective medical products add components to their troubled lines, it is not the duty of the lawyers from the Rottenstein Law Group to do public relations for the manufacturers of these products. However, they do take notes. When Zimmer Holdings Inc. released the new product called “trabecular metal” which is a type of spongy bone that is “a highly porous biomaterial that resembles the structure, function and physiology of trabecular bone”. Knee replacement revision procedures that uses the NexGen CR-Flex knee replacement system is being helped by this Zimmer’s ne product in order to augment its “shapes” and “cones”.
However, we always remind people to be skeptical before anyone gets too excited about this latest development in artificial implant technology. One of the first thing we should know is that corporations are allowed to bring their products to market without subjecting them to clinical trials by claiming they are “substantially equivalent” to preexisting products because they are examined through the so-called 510(k) premarket approval process. Consequently, Trabecular Metal may not have been subject to such testing, so potential recipients should be wary after their NexGen line came out defective. “This component is still commercially available but should not be used for any patient.” Calls for a NexGen CR-Flex recall keep growing. Finally, back in September 2010, Zimmer recalled 350 components of its NexGen LPS-Flex knee replacement due to their “nonconforming and inconsistent geometry.”, describes the Zimmer consultant, Dr. Richard Berger when asked to describe the implant. Right now, we can only hope that this will not happen to the trabecular metal.
At the Rottenstein Law Group, we track developments in the artificial joint replacement world because so many manufacturers’ products have failed to live up to their promises and injured thousands. If you received a Zimmer NexGen CR-Flex knee replacement device and it injured you, you may be eligible for some amount of compensation in a knee replacement lawsuit. Before taking any actions, people would want a zimmer nexgen knee recall to happen as a signal. Yet, in a lawsuit, a recall is not really a necessity. Now, immediately get in touch with a lawyer. Unless you win, you don’t need to pay anything.
